Dr. Oda van Cranenburgh studied law at the University of Amsterdam, and Political science in the United States, first at the San Francisco State University and at the University of California at Davis. She received her PhD in Leiden in 1990 with a thesis on the African One Party State (Title: The Widening Gyre: the Tanzanian One-Party State and Policy towards Rural Cooperatives). She was a member of the AIV (Advisory Council for International Affairs) of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs from its foundation until April 2004. Dr. Van Cranenburgh teaches a course on Politics in Developing Countries and a seminar on Democratisation in developing countries. Her current research is on Democratisation in Africa.
