29 October, 2013: Food for Thought with René van der Veer
Prof. René van der Veer talked about the history of the Institute of Education and Child Studies.
René van der Veer: From young adulthood to infancy: A brief history of the Institute of Education and Child Studies
In just 50 years the Institute of Education and Child Studies grew from a department with four teachers and some 15 students to its present size. Both the nature of its research and the content of the curriculum changed considerably. In its research and teaching the institute is no longer strongly focused on moral and religious considerations. Instead, more attention is paid to the empirical study of child development and the ways to optimize the conditions for that development.
In the presentation several of the major developments in the institute were presented against the background of social developments such as the growing number of students and shifting government policies.
