Two Awards for Political Science

During the traditional New Year's reception the prize winners of several awards were announced. Political Science won two out of the four awards; the Casimir award for teaching and the Thesis award.


Casimir Award

Jan Erk, professor of Comparative Politics received the award for his outstanding teaching. The Casimir award is awarded each year to a member of the teaching staff of Social and Behavioural Sciences, who uses new methods and teaches in a stimulating way. Jan Erk has been given this award for stimulating students both during and outside his classes. He invites students as junior researchers for his own research. His lectures are available through podcasts. In that way he is always "available" for students. 

Thesis award

Janet van Klink has unamiously been chosen as the winner of the Thesis award of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She received the award for her thesis ‘Media In Bed With Our Tough Guys’. The impact ofembedded journalism in Afghanistan on Dutch Newspaper Stories of ISAF . She studied the possible differences in news stories between embedded journalists and journalists who are not embedded.
