KNAW Merian Award for Naomi Ellemers
The first KNAW 'Merian Award for women in science’ has been awarded to Prof. Naomi Ellemers for her excellent research programme and active efforts towards creating equal opportunities for women in science.
Jury report
There were 68 nominations for the prize, all of equally high academic standing. In its report the jury calls Naomi Ellemers ‘a passionate scientist’, who because of her excellent scientific performance and visible presence in academic organizations and committees is an important role model for young scientists in general, and women researchers in particular.
Prof. Ellemers is actively engaged in creating equal opportunities for women in science.
Presentation ceremony
The award, made possible by a donation from SNS REAAL Fonds, consists of € 50,000 and a piece of jewelry especially designed for the occasion. The presentation ceremony will take place in the Trippenhuis, Amsterdam, on Tuesday 26 January 2010.
